The very first Living Colour! textile art work to reach the curator, in the cloth, was Madder & Friends by Catherine Gowthorpe of the United Kingdom. This piece is one of two plant dyed works in the exhibition. The principal dye used is madder, with smaller amounts of logwood and goldenrod. Fabrics include cotton, silk, repurposed linen and wool and each of the 160 squares is hand-embroidered.
Living Colour! will premiere at the Australasian Quilt Convention in Melbourne, 10-13 April 2014 .
