Each textile work in this exhibition must have a hanging sleeve and velcro strip casing attached to the back in accordance with these instructions. Your textile work may be withdrawn from exhibition if it does not comply with these requirements (also available as a downloadable PDF).
- the hanging sleeve must be 3-4in deep positioned so that, when a rod is in place (holding the weight of the work), the top of the sleeve rests 1 inch from the top of the textile work and the sleeve is not visible from the front of the work;
- the sleeve must have a pleat to accommodate a rod without distorting the textile work; Excellent hanging sleeve directions can be found on Susan Brubaker Knapp’s blog at How to Make a Quilt Sleeve http://wwwbluemoonriver.blogspot.com/2007/07/how-to-make-quilt-sleeve.html;
- velcro strips in protective casing must be attached to the hanging sleeve with the “hook” part of the velcro above the matching “loop” strip . See MG Quilts for a guide on how to make an easily detachable velcro casing http://mgquilts.blogspot.com/2007/05/temporary-velcro.html
Both parts of the velcro must be attached to the casing. The lower part of the casing must fold up to completely cover the hook velcro strips. See diagram below.
Matching velcro strips (in protective casing) across the bottom of the textile work are optional.
