A Glimpse of Living Colour: Sandra Champion

Sandra Champion of Hobart, Tasmania combines paper and hand stitch to create colour, texture and movement in her works.  In Tingles on the Bibbulmun, Sandra was inspired by the colours of leaves as they deepened and matured, falling onto the Bibbulmun Track, Western Australia and creating a beautiful coloured carpet of deep yellows, greens and reds for walkers to enjoy.  Read more about Sandra’a work in this interview.

A Glimpse of Living Colour: Catherine Gowthorpe

The very first Living Colour! textile art work to reach the curator, in the cloth, was Madder & Friends by Catherine Gowthorpe of the United Kingdom.  This piece is one of two plant dyed works in the exhibition.    The principal dye used is madder, with smaller amounts of logwood and goldenrod.  Fabrics include cotton, silk, repurposed linen and wool and each of the 160 squares is hand-embroidered.Cathernine Gowthorpe Detail
