Dianne Firth at National Library: 31 August

Living Colour artist  Dianne Firth is speaking at the National Library of Australia on 31 August at 2pm. Here are the full details:

Layers by Design: Landscape and Quilts Dr Dianne Firth has two threads to the needle of her career. She is a landscape architect, teacher, writer and a quilter of renown. Her love of landscape has often inspired her choice of subject and the way she makes her quilts. Sunday 31 August, 2 pm Conference Room, $15 (includes afternoon tea)

Australia Quilts Exhibition: 18-21 September Alsace, France

Carrefour Européen du Patchwork/ European Patchwork Meeting celebrates its 20th anniversary in Alsace, France from 18-21 September 2014. Australia is guest country of honour from outside Europe.

Australia Quilts is an invitational exhibition curated by Brenda Gael Smith to showcase the diversity of Australian quiltmaking and textile art – both traditional and contemporary.  The exhibit includes works by the following Living Colour! artists:

Brenda is accompanying the exhibition and will conduct curator floor talks.  If you can’t make it to Alsace, you can view the online gallery at Australia Quilts: Exceptional Quilts from the Great Southern Land.

Opening Night at The Bunker Cartoon Gallery

More than 60 people turned out for the opening of Living Colour! At the Bunker Cartoon Gallery at Coffs Harbour. Thank you to Gallery coordinator Lisa Magri and local artists Sandy Corry and Caroline Sharkey for welcoming everyone. The exhibition runs until 13 September. Gallery hours are 10am-4pm, Monday – Saturday.

Installation at The Bunker Gallery

Living Colour Spotlight on New Zealand #2

Living Colour! will be a special exhibit at Quilt Symposium Manawatu 16-21 January 2015) .  But wait, there’s more!

Curator, Brenda Gael Smith is giving a lunchtime presentation (Saturday, 17 January 12.15-1pm) Adventures & Inspiration from the Twelve by Twelve International Art Quilt Challenge and there will be an opportunity to view some of Brenda’s quilts “in the cloth” And Living Colour artist Betty Busby (USA)  is giving a lunchtime lecture An Artistic Journey (Sunday 18 January ).

But wait, there’s more!  Brenda, Betty are both teaching at Symposium along with another Living Colour artist Caroline Sharkey .  Here’s the workshshop line up:

Now you have time to decide what classes and lectures you would like to take before returning your choices by 15 August 2014 to ensure you get allocations based on your registration number. Living Colour at Bunker Cartoon Gallery

You are invited to the first gallery outing of Living Colour! at:

Gallery Hours: 10am-4pm Monday-Saturday

There is an official opening at 6pm on Friday, 8 August 2014 with local artist Sandy Corry in attendance. All welcome! Please share this invitation with friends and textile enthusiasts on the Far North Coast.

  • Surf & Turf – a series of amusing sporting cartoons; and
  • Through These Lines, 13-17 August, an original Australian play based on the letters and diaries of Australian army nurses serving in WWI.
